These classic cookies, also known as black and white cookies, feature a soft, cake-like texture and a two-toned icing.
Ingredients - Serves 24
- Hot water - 1/4 cup
- Unsweetened cocoa powder - 1/3 cup
- Powdered sugar - 4 cups
- Milk - 1/2 cup
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Eggs - 2
- Granulated sugar - 1 1/4 cups
- Unsalted butter - 1 cup, softened
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 2 1/2 cups
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 375°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture.
- Drop the dough by rounded tablespoonfuls onto the prepared baking sheets. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- While the cookies are cooling, prepare the icing. In a large bowl, combine the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and hot water until smooth.
- Once the cookies are cool, spread the icing on half of each cookie.
