Green Bean Potato Gratin
A delicious and hearty side dish combining the flavors of green beans, potatoes, and cheese, baked to perfection.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Gruyere cheese - 1.5 cups, grated
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Milk - 2 cups
- All-purpose flour - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Butter - 2 tablespoons
- Potatoes - 1.5 pounds, peeled and thinly sliced
- Green beans - 1 pound, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Blanch the green beans in boiling water for 3 minutes, then drain and set aside.
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Stir in the flour and cook for 2 minutes, then gradually whisk in the milk. Bring to a boil and cook until thickened, about 2 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in half of the cheese. Season with salt and pepper.
- In a large baking dish, layer half of the potatoes, half of the green beans, and half of the cheese sauce. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, green beans, and sauce.
- Top with the remaining cheese and bake for 60 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
