Cider Braised Pork Shank
A hearty and flavorful dish, the pork shank is slow-cooked in a cider-based braising liquid until it's tender and juicy.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Thyme - 1 teaspoon
- Bay leaves - 2
- Chicken broth - 1 cup
- Apple cider - 2 cups
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 large, chopped
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Pork shanks - 4
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 325°F.
- Season the pork shanks with salt and pepper.
- Heat the olive oil in a large oven-safe pot over medium-high heat. Add the pork shanks and brown on all sides, about 10 minutes. Remove from the pot and set aside.
- In the same pot, add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the cider, chicken broth, bay leaves, and thyme. Bring to a boil.
- Return the pork shanks to the pot, cover, and transfer to the oven.
- Braise for 2.5-3 hours, or until the pork is tender and falling off the bone.
- Serve the pork shanks with the braising liquid.
