  2. Layer half the potato and onion slices in a baking dish, seasoning each layer and sprinkling with some thyme.
  3. Pour over half the stock, then repeat the layers until all the ingredients are used up.
  4. Drizzle the melted butter over the top layer.
  5. Bake for 1 hour, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden and crisp.
