- Custard filling - 1 cup
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Egg - 1
- Unsalted butter - 4 tablespoons, melted
- Milk - 3/4 cup
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Active dry yeast - 2 1/4 teaspoons
- Granulated sugar - 1/2 cup
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk until warm (about 110°F).
- Pour the warm milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract into the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and roll it out to a 1/2-inch thickness.
- Using a round cookie cutter, cut out doughnut shapes and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Cover the doughnuts with a kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Bake the doughnuts for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove the doughnuts from the oven and let them cool completely.
- Using a piping bag, fill each doughnut with custard filling.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate and heavy cream together in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
- Dip the top of each filled doughnut into the chocolate glaze, allowing the excess to drip off.
- Place the glazed doughnuts on a wire rack to set the chocolate glaze.
- Serve and enjoy!
