Boortsog
Boortsog is a traditional fried dough pastry from Mongolia. It is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, perfect for dipping in tea or enjoying as a snack.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Sugar - 1/4 cup
- Milk - 1/2 cup
- Butter - 1/2 cup, melted
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 3 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the melted butter, milk, and sugar to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot over medium heat.
- Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/4 inch.
- Cut the dough into small rectangles or diamond shapes.
- Fry the boortsog in batches until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove the boortsog from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
