Ingredients - Serves 10

Let's Get Started

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder. Mix well.
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
  4. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 10 equal portions. Shape each portion into a smooth ball.
  7. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Gently flatten each dough ball into a disc shape, then use your thumb to make a hole in the center.
  9. Carefully drop the dough discs into the hot oil, frying 2-3 at a time. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  10. Remove the fried Banh Tieu from the oil and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  11. While still warm, roll the Banh Tieu in sesame seeds to coat.
  12. Serve the Banh Tieu warm and enjoy!
