Zeppole is a classic Italian pastry that is traditionally eaten on Saint Joseph's Day. It's a delicious doughnut-like dessert filled with a creamy custard.

Ingredients

  • Powdered sugar - For dusting
  • Vegetable oil - For frying
  • Butter - 2 tablespoons, melted
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Milk - 1 cup
  • Eggs - 4
  • Baking powder - 2 teaspoons
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Sugar - 1/2 cup
  • All - purpose flour - 2 cups

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  2. In another bowl, beat the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter together.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the dough into the hot oil, frying until they are golden brown.
  6. Remove the zeppole with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  7. Dust the zeppole with powdered sugar before serving.
