Homemade Doughnuts

These fluffy and delicious doughnuts are perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

  • Water - 2-3 tablespoons
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Powdered sugar - 1 cup
  • Vegetable oil - For frying
  • Butter - 4 tablespoons, melted
  • Egg - 1
  • Milk - 1 cup
  • Sugar - 1/2 cup
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Baking powder - 1 tablespoon
  • All - purpose flour - 3 cups

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted butter.
  3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  5. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thickness.
  6. Using a doughnut cutter or two round cookie cutters (one large and one small), cut out the doughnuts and doughnut holes.
  7. In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil to 375°F.
  8. Fry the doughnuts and doughnut holes in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  9. Remove the doughnuts from the oil with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  10. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and water until smooth.
  11. Dip the doughnuts in the glaze and place on a wire rack to set.
  12. Serve and enjoy!
