Homemade Donuts

These homemade donuts are fluffy, sweet, and perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

  • Water - 1/4 cup
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Powdered sugar - 1 cup
  • Vegetable oil - For frying
  • Butter - 4 tablespoons, melted
  • Egg - 1
  • Milk - 1 cup
  • Sugar - 1/2 cup
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Baking powder - 1 tablespoon
  • All - purpose flour - 3 cups

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted butter.
  3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 1-2 minutes, or until smooth.
  5. Roll the dough out to 1/2 inch thickness and cut out donuts using a donut cutter or two round cookie cutters (one large and one small).
  6. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot or deep fryer to 375°F.
  7. Fry the donuts in batches for 1-2 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
  8. Remove the donuts from the oil with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  9. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and water until smooth.
  10. Dip the warm donuts into the glaze and place on a wire rack to set.
  11. Serve warm or at room temperature.
