Turkish Kebab

This Turkish kebab recipe features tender marinated meat grilled to perfection and served with a flavorful yogurt sauce.

Ingredients

  • Red onion - 1, sliced
  • Tomato - 1, sliced
  • Pita bread - 4 pieces
  • Fresh mint - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Cucumber - 1, grated
  • Greek yogurt - 1 cup
  • Salt and pepper - To taste
  • Ground paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground cumin - 1 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Lamb or beef - 1.5 pounds, cut into cubes

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the olive oil, minced garlic, lemon juice, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper to make the marinade.
  2. Add the cubed meat to the marinade and toss to coat. Let it marinate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
  3. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  4. Thread the marinated meat onto skewers, alternating with pieces of onion and bell pepper if desired.
  5. Grill the kebabs for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until the meat is cooked to your desired doneness.
  6. While the kebabs are grilling, prepare the yogurt sauce by combining the Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, chopped mint, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  7. Toast the pita bread on the grill for a few seconds on each side.
  8. Serve the grilled kebabs on the toasted pita bread, topped with sliced tomatoes, red onions, and a dollop of yogurt sauce.
