Smoked Gouda Mac and Cheese

A creamy, smoky mac and cheese made with smoked gouda and sharp cheddar.

Ingredients

  • Bread crumbs - 1/2 cup
  • Salt and pepper - To taste
  • Sharp cheddar cheese - 1 cup, shredded
  • Smoked gouda cheese - 2 cups, shredded
  • Milk - 2 cups
  • All - purpose flour - 1/4 cup
  • Butter - 4 tablespoons
  • Elbow macaroni - 2 cups

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. Cook the elbow macaroni according to the package instructions, then drain and set aside.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour until smooth.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk, then bring to a boil. Cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened.
  5. Reduce heat to low, then stir in the cheeses, salt, and pepper until the cheese is melted.
  6. Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until well coated.
  7. Transfer the macaroni and cheese to the prepared baking dish, then sprinkle with bread crumbs.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown.
