Skillet Cornbread

This is a traditional Southern-style cornbread baked in a cast iron skillet for a crispy crust.

Ingredients

  • Butter - 1/4 cup, melted
  • Honey - 1/4 cup
  • Buttermilk - 1 cup
  • Eggs - 2, beaten
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Baking powder - 1 tablespoon
  • All - purpose flour - 1/2 cup
  • Cornmeal - 1 1/2 cups

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F and place a 9-inch cast iron skillet inside to heat while you make the batter.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, honey, and melted butter.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Carefully remove the hot skillet from the oven. Pour the batter into the skillet.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cornbread is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cornbread to cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
