Pita Gyros

A delicious Greek sandwich filled with grilled meat, tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, and onions, all wrapped in a soft pita bread.

Ingredients

  • Tzatziki sauce - 1 cup
  • Onions - 1, thinly sliced
  • Tomatoes - 2, sliced
  • Salt and pepper - To taste
  • Oregano - 1 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Lamb or chicken - 1 pound, thinly sliced
  • Pita bread - 4 pieces

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, oregano, salt, and pepper. Add the meat and marinate for at least 1 hour.
  2. Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the meat and cook until it is browned and cooked through, about 5 minutes per side.
  3. Warm the pita bread in the oven or on the grill for a few seconds until it is soft and pliable.
  4. Spread a generous amount of tzatziki sauce on each pita. Top with the cooked meat, sliced tomatoes, and onions.
  5. Fold the pita over the fillings, and your gyros are ready to serve.
