Ingredients

  • Salt and pepper - To taste
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Onion - 1, finely chopped
  • Ground beef - 1 pound
  • All - purpose flour - 5 cups
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Eggs - 2
  • Butter - 1/2 cup
  • Milk - 1 cup
  • Warm water - 1/4 cup
  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Active dry yeast - 1 packet

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the yeast, sugar, and warm water. Let sit for 5 minutes, or until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the milk, butter, eggs, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
  3. Gradually add the flour, stirring until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. While the dough is rising, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic in a skillet over medium heat. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a circle, place a spoonful of the beef filling in the center, and fold the dough over to form a half-moon shape. Pinch the edges to seal.
  8. Place the piroshky on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
