Turkish Pide

Turkish pide is a delicious traditional flatbread topped with various ingredients like cheese, meat, and vegetables.

Ingredients

  • Salt and pepper - To taste
  • Egg - 1, beaten
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Feta cheese - 1/2 cup, crumbled
  • Black olives - 1/4 cup, sliced
  • Red bell pepper - 1, diced
  • Tomato - 1, diced
  • Onion - 1, finely chopped
  • Ground beef - 1/2 pound
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • All - purpose flour - 3 cups
  • Warm water - 1 cup
  • Active dry yeast - 2 teaspoons

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix the ingredients together until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  6. In a skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, tomato, and red bell pepper until the beef is browned and the vegetables are softened. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions. Roll out each portion into an oval shape on a floured surface.
  8. Transfer the rolled dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Spread the cooked ground beef mixture evenly on top of each dough oval.
  10. Sprinkle the sliced black olives, crumbled feta cheese, and chopped parsley over the toppings.
  11. Brush the edges of the dough with beaten egg.
  12. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and crispy.
  13. Serve hot and enjoy!
