Paszteciki

Paszteciki

Paszteciki are Polish savory pastries filled with a delicious meat and mushroom filling.

Ingredients

  • Egg yolk - 1, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Salt and pepper - To taste
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Onion - 1, finely chopped
  • Mushrooms - 1 cup, finely chopped
  • Ground beef - 1/2 pound
  • Water - 1/4 cup, cold
  • Egg - 1
  • Butter - 1/2 cup, cold and cubed
  • All - purpose flour - 2 cups

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour and cold, cubed butter. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Add the egg and cold water to the flour mixture. Mix until the dough comes together. If the dough is too dry, add a little more water, 1 tablespoon at a time.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for a few minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  4. In a skillet, cook the ground beef, mushrooms, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the meat is browned and the vegetables are tender. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and let the filling cool.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of about 1/8 inch. Cut out circles or squares, approximately 3 inches in diameter.
  7. Place a spoonful of the meat and mushroom filling in the center of each dough piece. Fold the dough over the filling to form a triangle or rectangle shape. Press the edges together to seal.
  8. Place the paszteciki on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with beaten egg yolk for a shiny finish.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the paszteciki are golden brown and crispy.
  10. Serve warm as an appetizer or snack.
