Nilagang Baka

Nilagang Baka is a traditional Filipino beef soup made with tender beef, vegetables, and flavorful broth.

Ingredients

  • Pepper - To taste
  • Salt - To taste
  • Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Bok choy - 2 bunches, chopped
  • Cabbage - 1/2 small head, chopped
  • Carrots - 3 medium, sliced
  • Potatoes - 4 medium, quartered
  • Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
  • Onion - 1 large, quartered
  • Water - 8 cups
  • Beef shank - 2 pounds

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, bring the water to a boil.
  2. Add the beef shank and simmer for 1 hour or until the beef is tender.
  3. Skim off any impurities that rise to the surface.
  4. Add the onion, garlic, potatoes, and carrots. Cook for 10 minutes.
  5. Add the cabbage and bok choy. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  6. Season with fish sauce, salt, and pepper to taste.
  7. Remove from heat and serve hot.
