Laab

Laab is a traditional Thai dish made with minced meat, herbs, and spices. It is typically served as a salad or wrapped in lettuce leaves.

Ingredients

  • Lettuce leaves - For serving
  • Thai chili peppers - 2, finely chopped
  • Mint leaves - 1/4 cup, chopped
  • Cilantro - 1/4 cup, chopped
  • Green onions - 1/4 cup, chopped
  • Red onion - 1/2 cup, thinly sliced
  • Roasted rice powder - 2 tablespoons
  • Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Lime juice - 3 tablespoons
  • Ground chicken or pork - 1 lb

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground meat over medium heat until fully cooked and browned.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the lime juice, fish sauce, and roasted rice powder.
  3. Add the lime juice mixture to the cooked meat and stir well to combine.
  4. Remove the skillet from heat and let the mixture cool for a few minutes.
  5. Add the red onion, green onions, cilantro, mint leaves, and Thai chili peppers to the meat mixture. Mix well.
  6. Serve the laab mixture on a platter, garnished with extra herbs if desired.
  7. To eat, take a lettuce leaf and spoon some laab mixture onto it. Wrap the lettuce leaf around the filling and enjoy!
