Hawawshi

Hawawshi is a popular Egyptian street food made with spiced ground meat stuffed in pita bread and baked to perfection.

Ingredients

  • Tahini sauce - 1/4 cup
  • Lettuce - 1 cup, shredded
  • Tomato - 1, sliced
  • Pita bread - 4 rounds
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Green bell pepper - 1, finely chopped
  • Onion - 1 large, finely chopped
  • Ground beef - 500 grams

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, chopped onion, green bell pepper, minced garlic, cumin, coriander, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Cut the pita bread rounds in half to form pockets.
  4. Stuff each pita pocket with the ground beef mixture, pressing it down gently to fill the entire pocket.
  5. Place the stuffed pitas on a baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the meat is cooked through and the pita bread is crispy.
  6. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
  7. Open each hawawshi pocket and fill with sliced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and a drizzle of tahini sauce.
  8. Serve hot and enjoy!
