Gulab Jamun

Gulab Jamun is a popular Indian sweet made from milk solids and soaked in a sweet syrup.

Ingredients

  • Oil - for frying
  • Saffron strands - few strands
  • Rose water - 1 teaspoon
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Sugar - 1 cup
  • Cardamom powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Milk - 1/4 cup
  • Ghee - 2 tablespoons
  • Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • All - purpose flour - 1/4 cup
  • Milk powder - 1 cup

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the milk powder, all-purpose flour, and baking powder.
  2. Add ghee and mix well to form a crumbly texture.
  3. Gradually add milk and knead the mixture into a soft dough.
  4. Divide the dough into small portions and roll them into smooth balls.
  5. In a deep pan, heat oil over medium heat.
  6. Fry the dough balls until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. In a separate saucepan, combine sugar and water to make the syrup.
  8. Bring the syrup to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes.
  9. Add cardamom powder, rose water, and saffron strands to the syrup.
  10. Remove the fried dough balls from the oil and immediately transfer them to the syrup.
  11. Allow the gulab jamuns to soak in the syrup for at least 30 minutes before serving.
  12. Serve warm or at room temperature, garnished with chopped nuts if desired.
