Gulab Jamoon

Gulab Jamun is a popular Indian sweet made from milk solids, deep-fried and soaked in a sugar syrup.

Ingredients

  • Oil - for deep frying
  • Saffron strands - few strands
  • Rose water - 1 teaspoon
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Sugar - 1 cup
  • Cardamom powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Milk - 1/4 cup
  • Ghee - 2 tablespoons
  • Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • All - purpose flour - 1/4 cup
  • Milk powder - 1 cup

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine milk powder, all-purpose flour, and baking powder.
  2. Add ghee and mix well to form a crumbly texture.
  3. Gradually add milk and knead the mixture into a soft dough.
  4. Divide the dough into small portions and shape them into smooth balls.
  5. Heat oil in a deep pan for frying.
  6. Fry the dough balls on low heat until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. In a separate saucepan, combine sugar and water to make a sugar syrup.
  8. Add cardamom powder, rose water, and saffron strands to the syrup.
  9. Simmer the syrup for a few minutes until it thickens slightly.
  10. Remove the fried dough balls from the oil and immediately transfer them to the sugar syrup.
  11. Allow the gulab jamuns to soak in the syrup for at least 30 minutes before serving.
  12. Serve warm or at room temperature, garnished with chopped nuts if desired.
