Gratin de Macaroni

This creamy and cheesy gratin de macaroni is a delicious French comfort food dish.

Ingredients

  • Salt and pepper - To taste
  • Nutmeg - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Parmesan cheese - 1/2 cup, grated
  • Gruyere cheese - 2 cups, grated
  • Milk - 2 cups
  • All - purpose flour - 1/4 cup
  • Butter - 4 tablespoons
  • Macaroni - 8 ounces

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  4. Add the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  5. Gradually whisk in the milk and continue cooking until the mixture thickens.
  6. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in 1 1/2 cups of the grated Gruyere cheese and the Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth.
  7. Season with nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
  8. Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until well coated.
  9. Transfer the macaroni mixture to a greased baking dish.
  10. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of grated Gruyere cheese on top.
  11. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  12. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
