Croque Au Fromage

This classic French dish is made with bread, cheese, and a creamy white sauce.

Ingredients

  • Ham - 4 slices
  • Gruyere cheese - 1 cup, grated
  • Baguette - 1, sliced
  • Salt and pepper - To taste
  • Nutmeg - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Gruyere cheese - 1 cup, grated
  • Milk - 2 cups
  • All - purpose flour - 2 tablespoons
  • Butter - 2 tablespoons

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  3. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Whisk in the milk and cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce is thickened, about 5 minutes.
  5. Remove from the heat and stir in the Gruyere cheese, nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
  6. Spread the sauce over the baguette slices and top with the grated cheese and ham.
  7. Bake for 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Serve hot.
