Crispy Fried Chicken

This crispy fried chicken is coated in a seasoned flour mixture and then deep-fried to golden perfection.

Ingredients

  • Vegetable oil - For frying
  • Cayenne pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Onion powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 tablespoon
  • All - purpose flour - 2 cups
  • Buttermilk - 2 cups
  • Chicken pieces - 8, bone-in, skin-on

Instructions

  1. Place the chicken pieces in a large bowl and cover with buttermilk. Let marinate for at least 1 hour, or overnight in the refrigerator.
  2. In another large bowl, combine the flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, letting the excess drip off, and then dredge in the flour mixture, making sure all sides are coated.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F.
  5. Fry the chicken pieces in batches for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. The internal temperature should reach 165°F.
  6. Drain the fried chicken on paper towels before serving.
