Balinese Fruit Salad with Tamarind

This refreshing Balinese fruit salad, also known as Rujak, combines a variety of tropical fruits with a tangy tamarind dressing.

Ingredients

  • Red chili - 1, finely chopped
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Palm sugar - 2 tablespoons
  • Tamarind paste - 2 tablespoons
  • Jicama - 1/2, peeled and cut into chunks
  • Cucumber - 1, peeled and cut into chunks
  • Papaya - 1/2, peeled and cut into chunks
  • Mango - 1, peeled and cut into chunks
  • Pineapple - 1/2, peeled and cut into chunks

Instructions

  1. Prepare all the fruits by peeling and cutting them into chunks.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the tamarind paste, palm sugar, salt, and chopped red chili to make the dressing.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the fruit chunks.
  4. Pour the tamarind dressing over the fruit and toss well to combine.
  5. Serve the salad immediately, or refrigerate for an hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
