Zimtstern
Zimtstern are traditional German Christmas cookies made of ground nuts and spices, topped with a thin layer of icing.
Ingredients - Serves 30
- Lemon zest - 1 teaspoon
- Cinnamon - 2 teaspoons
- Egg whites - 2
- Icing sugar - 1 cup
- Ground almonds - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 150°C (300°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground almonds, icing sugar, egg whites, cinnamon, and lemon zest. Mix until a dough forms.
- On a surface dusted with icing sugar, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/4 inch.
- Using a star-shaped cookie cutter, cut out the cookies and place them on the prepared baking tray.
- Bake for 15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the tray for a few minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
