Tanghulu
Tanghulu, also known as Bing Tanghulu, is a traditional Chinese snack of candied fruit. It's typically made with hawthorn berries but can be made with a variety of fruits.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Water - 1/2 cup
- Sugar - 1 cup
- Bamboo skewers - 4
- Fruit (hawthorn berries, strawberries, etc.) - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- Wash and dry the fruit. Skewer the fruit onto the bamboo skewers.
- In a saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is dissolved.
- Continue to cook the sugar syrup without stirring until it reaches 300°F (hard-crack stage) on a candy thermometer.
- Dip each skewer of fruit into the sugar syrup, coating the fruit completely. Allow any excess syrup to drip off.
- Place the coated fruit skewers onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to cool and harden.
- Once the sugar coating is hard, the tanghulu is ready to eat. Enjoy it the same day it's made for the best texture.
