Molasses Cookies
These soft and chewy molasses cookies are packed with warm spices and have a rich molasses flavor.
Ingredients - Serves 24
- Granulated sugar (for rolling) - 1/4 cup
- Molasses - 1/4 cup
- Egg - 1
- Granulated sugar - 1 cup
- Unsalted butter - 3/4 cup, softened
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Ground cloves - 1/2 teaspoon
- Ground ginger - 1 teaspoon
- Ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Baking soda - 2 teaspoons
- All-purpose flour - 2 1/4 cups
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and 1 cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and molasses until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Roll the dough into 1-inch balls, then roll each ball in the remaining 1/4 cup of granulated sugar to coat.
- Place the coated dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still slightly soft.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
