Gratin de Macaroni
This creamy and cheesy gratin de macaroni is a delicious French comfort food dish.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Nutmeg - 1/4 teaspoon
- Parmesan cheese - 1/2 cup, grated
- Gruyere cheese - 2 cups, grated
- Milk - 2 cups
- All-purpose flour - 1/4 cup
- Butter - 4 tablespoons
- Macaroni - 8 ounces
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Gradually whisk in the milk and continue cooking until the mixture thickens.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in 1 1/2 cups of the grated Gruyere cheese and the Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth.
- Season with nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
- Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until well coated.
- Transfer the macaroni mixture to a greased baking dish.
- Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of grated Gruyere cheese on top.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
