Gratin de Haricots Verts
This delicious French dish features tender haricots verts (French green beans) baked in a creamy cheese sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Breadcrumbs - 1/2 cup
- Parmesan cheese - 1/2 cup, grated
- Gruyere cheese - 1 cup, grated
- Milk - 1 cup
- All-purpose flour - 2 tablespoons
- Butter - 2 tablespoons
- Haricots verts (french green beans) - 1 pound
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the haricots verts and cook for 3-4 minutes, until crisp-tender. Drain and set aside.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in the milk and cook until the sauce thickens, about 3-4 minutes.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the grated Gruyere cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
- Place the cooked haricots verts in a baking dish and pour the cheese sauce over them. Mix well to coat the beans.
- In a small bowl, combine the grated Parmesan cheese and breadcrumbs. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the beans.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Serve hot as a side dish.
