Endive and Bacon Gratin
This delicious endive and bacon gratin is a perfect combination of flavors. The endive is cooked until tender, then topped with crispy bacon and a creamy cheese sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Parmesan cheese - 1/2 cup, grated
- Gruyere cheese - 1 cup, grated
- Milk - 1 cup
- All-purpose flour - 2 tablespoons
- Butter - 2 tablespoons
- Bacon - 8 slices, cooked and crumbled
- Endive - 4 heads
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Trim the endive heads and remove any wilted outer leaves.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the endive and cook for 5 minutes, or until tender. Drain well.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in the milk and cook until thickened, about 5 minutes.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the grated Gruyere cheese. Season with salt and pepper.
- Place the cooked endive in a baking dish and pour the cheese sauce over the top.
- Sprinkle the crumbled bacon and grated Parmesan cheese over the sauce.
- Bake for 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
