Croque Monsieur Sandwich

Ingredients - Serves 2

Let's Get Started

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. Spread butter on one side of each bread slice.
  3. Place two slices of ham and two slices of Gruyere cheese on two bread slices.
  4. Top with the remaining bread slices, buttered side up.
  5. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  6. Add the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  7. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.
  8. Cook the sauce until thickened, about 5 minutes.
  9. Remove from heat and stir in the Dijon mustard, nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
  10. Spread the béchamel sauce over the top of each sandwich.
  11. Place the sandwiches on a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  12. Serve hot and enjoy!
