Che Ba Ba
Chè Ba Màu is a traditional Vietnamese dessert made with three layers of sweet beans and jelly, served with coconut milk.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Ice cubes - 1 cup
- Water - 4 cups
- Coconut milk - 1 cup
- Sugar - 1/2 cup
- Agar agar powder - 1 tablespoon
- Red beans - 1/2 cup
- Black-eyed peas - 1/2 cup
- Mung beans - 1/2 cup
Let's Get Started
- Soak the mung beans, black-eyed peas, and red beans separately in water overnight.
- Drain the beans and rinse them well.
- In separate pots, cook each type of bean with 2 cups of water until soft. This may take about 30-40 minutes.
- In a small pot, dissolve the agar agar powder in 1 cup of water and bring to a boil. Stir continuously until the agar agar is completely dissolved.
- Divide the cooked beans into three equal portions.
- In one portion, add 1/4 cup of sugar and mix well.
- In another portion, add the dissolved agar agar and mix well.
- Leave the remaining portion plain.
- Pour each bean mixture into separate molds or bowls and let them set in the refrigerator for about 1 hour.
- Once set, cut the bean jellies into small cubes.
- To serve, divide the bean jellies into serving bowls, add a scoop of ice cubes, and pour coconut milk over the top.
- Enjoy the Chè Ba Màu chilled!
