Let's Get Started

  1. Warm the milk and add the sugar and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until the yeast is activated.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Add the yeast mixture.
  3. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until the dough comes together.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it's smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel and let it rise for about 2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut out circles using a doughnut cutter or a glass.
  7. Cover the doughnuts with a towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Fry the doughnuts until they're golden brown, about 2 minutes on each side.

  11. Fill a pastry bag with the jam or custard cream and pipe it into the center of each doughnut.
  12. Dust the bomboloni with powdered sugar before serving.
