Aplets and Cotlets
Aplets and Cotlets are a delicious fruit and nut candy from the Pacific Northwest, made primarily from apples, apricots, and walnuts.
Ingredients - Serves 36
- Powdered sugar - For dusting
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Walnuts - 1 cup, chopped
- Dried apricots - 1 cup, finely chopped
- Unsweetened applesauce - 1 cup
- Granulated sugar - 2 cups
- Water - 1 cup
- Unflavored gelatin - 2 packets
Let's Get Started
- In a large saucepan, sprinkle the gelatin over the water and let stand for 5 minutes to soften.
- Add the granulated sugar to the saucepan and heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar and gelatin are completely dissolved.
- Stir in the applesauce, apricots, walnuts, and lemon juice.
- Pour the mixture into a greased 8-inch square pan and refrigerate until firm, about 3 hours.
- Cut the candy into squares and roll each piece in powdered sugar.
- Store the Aplets and Cotlets in an airtight container at room temperature.
