Yangnyeom Chicken

Yangnyeom Chicken is a popular Korean dish made with crispy fried chicken coated in a sweet and spicy sauce.

Ingredients

  • Toasted sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (for garnish)
  • Green onions - 2, chopped (for garnish)
  • Salt - To taste
  • Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Gochujang (korean red pepper paste) - 1 tablespoon
  • Honey - 2 tablespoons
  • Ketchup - 2 tablespoons
  • Soy sauce - 1/4 cup
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
  • Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
  • Vegetable oil - 2 cups
  • Cornstarch - 1/2 cup
  • Chicken wings - 2 lbs

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, toss the chicken wings with cornstarch until evenly coated.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Fry the chicken wings in batches for about 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  4. In a separate pan, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat.
  5. Add minced garlic and grated ginger, and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  6. Add soy sauce, ketchup, honey, gochujang, rice vinegar, brown sugar, and salt. Stir well to combine and simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  7. Add the fried chicken wings to the sauce and toss until evenly coated.
  8. Garnish with chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds.
  9. Serve hot and enjoy!
