Tteokbokki

Tteokbokki is a popular Korean street food made with chewy rice cakes cooked in a spicy sauce.

Ingredients

  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon, for garnish
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Water - 2 cups
  • Fish cakes - 4 pieces, sliced
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Onion - 1 small, thinly sliced
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Gochujang (korean red pepper paste) - 3 tablespoons
  • Rice cakes - 1 pound

Instructions

  1. In a large pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and sliced onion. Cook until the onion is translucent.
  3. Add the gochujang, soy sauce, and sugar. Stir well to combine.
  4. Add the water and bring to a boil.
  5. Add the rice cakes and fish cakes. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the rice cakes are soft and chewy.
  6. Add the chopped green onions and sesame oil. Stir well to combine.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with sesame seeds.
