Stuffed Cabbage

This delicious stuffed cabbage recipe features a flavorful filling of ground beef, rice, and spices, wrapped in tender cabbage leaves and cooked in a savory tomato sauce.

Ingredients

  • Beef broth - 1 cup
  • Tomato sauce - 2 cups
  • Salt and pepper - To taste
  • Parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Bread crumbs - 1/2 cup
  • Egg - 1
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Cooked rice - 1 cup
  • Ground beef - 1 pound
  • Cabbage - 1 large head

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and place the whole head in the boiling water. Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the outer leaves are tender. Remove the cabbage from the water and let it cool slightly.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, bread crumbs, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  3. Carefully peel off the outer leaves of the cabbage, being careful not to tear them. Trim the thick center vein from each leaf.
  4. Take a cabbage leaf and place a spoonful of the ground beef mixture in the center. Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling and roll it up tightly. Repeat with the remaining cabbage leaves and filling.
  5. In a large pot, combine the tomato sauce and beef broth. Place the stuffed cabbage rolls in the pot, seam side down. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
  6. Cover the pot and cook over low heat for 1 hour and 30 minutes, or until the cabbage rolls are tender and the flavors have melded together.
  7. Serve the stuffed cabbage rolls hot, spooning some of the tomato sauce over the top.
