Smoky Corn and Onion Rings

Ingredients

  • Vegetable oil - For frying
  • Milk - 1 cup
  • Egg - 1, beaten
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Smoked paprika - 1 tablespoon
  • Cornmeal - 1 cup
  • All - purpose flour - 1 cup
  • Onion - 1 large, sliced into rings
  • Corn kernels - 2 cups

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Dip the onion rings into the beaten egg, then coat them in the flour mixture. Set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the corn kernels with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Fry the onion rings in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  6. In the same oil, fry the corn kernels until they are lightly browned and crispy, about 2-3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve the smoky corn and onion rings hot, with your favorite dipping sauce.
