Smoked Turkey Legs

These smoked turkey legs are juicy, flavorful, and perfect for a barbecue or outdoor gathering.

Ingredients

  • Wood chips (hickory or apple) - 2 cups, soaked in water
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Cayenne pepper - 1 teaspoon
  • Onion powder - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic powder - 1 tablespoon
  • Paprika - 1 tablespoon
  • Black pepper - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - 2 tablespoons
  • Turkey legs - 6

Instructions

  1. Rinse the turkey legs and pat them dry with paper towels.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper to make a dry rub.
  3. Rub the dry rub mixture all over the turkey legs, ensuring they are evenly coated.
  4. Cover the turkey legs and let them marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
  5. Prepare your smoker according to the manufacturer's instructions, preheating it to 225°F.
  6. Remove the turkey legs from the refrigerator and let them come to room temperature while the smoker is preheating.
  7. Drizzle the turkey legs with olive oil and place them on the smoker rack.
  8. Add the soaked wood chips to the smoker box or directly onto the charcoal.
  9. Close the smoker and smoke the turkey legs for approximately 4 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  10. Once cooked, remove the turkey legs from the smoker and let them rest for 10 minutes before serving.
  11. Serve the smoked turkey legs hot and enjoy!
