Skillet Bread

A simple, no-knead bread baked in a skillet for a rustic loaf with a deliciously crispy crust.

Ingredients

  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - 2 teaspoons
  • All - purpose flour - 3 1/2 cups
  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Active dry yeast - 1 packet
  • Warm water - 1 1/2 cups

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes, or until the yeast is foamy.
  2. Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Cover the bowl with a towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and place a cast-iron skillet inside to heat up.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and shape it into a round loaf. Let it rest for 30 minutes.
  6. Carefully remove the hot skillet from the oven. Drizzle the olive oil into the skillet.
  7. Place the dough in the skillet and return it to the oven. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown.
  8. Let the bread cool before slicing and serving.
