Focaccia Bread

This homemade focaccia bread is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Perfect for sandwich bread or just dipped in olive oil.

Ingredients

  • Rosemary - 1 tablespoon, fresh or dried
  • Salt - 2 teaspoons
  • Olive oil - 1/4 cup
  • All - purpose flour - 3 1/2 cups
  • Active dry yeast - 2 1/4 teaspoons
  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Warm water - 1 1/3 cups

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved.
  2. Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let it sit for 5 minutes, or until it becomes frothy.
  3. Add the flour, 2 tablespoons of the olive oil, and the salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Punch down the dough and press it into a greased baking sheet.
  7. Use your fingers to make dimples in the dough. Drizzle it with the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil and sprinkle it with the rosemary.
  8. Bake for 20 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown.
