Shrimp and Grits

This classic Southern dish features succulent shrimp served over creamy grits.

Ingredients

  • Salt and pepper - To taste
  • Lemon - 1, sliced
  • Bacon - 4 slices, cooked and crumbled
  • Green onions - 1/4 cup, chopped
  • Cajun seasoning - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Butter - 2 tablespoons
  • Heavy cream - 1/2 cup
  • Chicken broth - 2 cups
  • Grits - 1 cup
  • Shrimp - 1 pound, peeled and deveined

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring the chicken broth to a boil.
  2. Slowly whisk in the grits and reduce the heat to low. Cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the grits are creamy and tender.
  3. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add the shrimp to the skillet and sprinkle with Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook for 3-4 minutes, until the shrimp are pink and cooked through.
  5. Stir in the heavy cream and green onions. Cook for an additional 2 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly.
  6. Divide the cooked grits among four plates. Top with the shrimp and sauce.
  7. Garnish with crumbled bacon and lemon slices.
  8. Serve hot and enjoy!
