Pataniscas de Bacalhau are traditional Portuguese salted cod fritters, served as a main course or appetizer.

Ingredients

  • Vegetable oil - For frying
  • Salt and pepper - To taste
  • Eggs - 2
  • Flour - 150 grams
  • Parsley - A handful, chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Onion - 1 large, finely chopped
  • Salted cod - 500 grams, soaked and shredded

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the shredded cod, chopped onion, minced garlic, and chopped parsley.
  2. In another bowl, beat the eggs and add the flour, salt, and pepper. Mix until you get a smooth batter.
  3. Add the cod mixture to the batter and stir until well combined.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  5. Using a spoon, drop dollops of the batter into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown on both sides.
  6. Remove the fritters with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve the pataniscas de bacalhau hot, with a side of salad or as an appetizer.
