Oysters Bienville

Oysters Bienville is a classic New Orleans dish with a rich and creamy cheese sauce.

Ingredients

  • Salt and pepper - To taste
  • Parsley - 1 tablespoon, chopped
  • Breadcrumbs - 1/2 cup
  • Parmesan cheese - 1/2 cup, grated
  • Shrimp - 1/2 cup, finely chopped
  • Milk - 1 cup
  • Flour - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Green bell pepper - 1, finely chopped
  • Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Butter - 4 tablespoons
  • Oysters - 12, on the half shell

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic and cook until softened.
  3. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Slowly whisk in the milk and bring to a simmer. Cook until the sauce has thickened.
  5. Add the shrimp and cook until they are pink and cooked through.
  6. Remove from the heat and stir in the Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, parsley, salt, and pepper.
  7. Place the oysters on a baking sheet. Spoon the sauce over the oysters.
  8. Bake for 10 minutes, or until the topping is golden and bubbly.
