Orange and Cranberry Scones

Ingredients

  • Powdered sugar - For dusting
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Freshly squeezed orange juice - 2 tablespoons
  • Milk - 1/2 cup
  • Dried cranberries - 1/2 cup
  • Orange zest - 1 tablespoon
  • Unsalted butter - 1/2 cup, cold and cubed
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Baking powder - 2 teaspoons
  • Granulated sugar - 1/4 cup
  • All - purpose flour - 2 cups

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the cold cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the orange zest and dried cranberries.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, orange juice, and vanilla extract.
  6. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  7. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into a 1-inch thick circle.
  8. Using a sharp knife or a biscuit cutter, cut the dough into 8 wedges or rounds.
  9. Place the scones onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven and let the scones cool on a wire rack.
  11. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
