Meatball Sub Sandwich

This delicious meatball sub sandwich is made with homemade meatballs, marinara sauce, and melted cheese, all served on a toasted sub roll.

Ingredients

  • Fresh basil - For garnish
  • Mozzarella cheese - 1 cup, shredded
  • Sub rolls - 4
  • Marinara sauce - 2 cups
  • Salt and pepper - To taste
  • Italian seasoning - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Egg - 1
  • Parmesan cheese - 1/4 cup, grated
  • Breadcrumbs - 1/2 cup
  • Ground beef - 1 pound

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  3. Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
  4. Place the meatballs on a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, or until cooked through.
  5. In a saucepan, heat the marinara sauce over medium heat.
  6. Add the cooked meatballs to the marinara sauce and simmer for 10 minutes.
  7. Slice the sub rolls lengthwise, without cutting all the way through.
  8. Place the meatballs and sauce inside the sub rolls.
  9. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  10. Bake the sandwiches in the oven for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  11. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
