Matar Paneer

Matar Paneer is a popular Indian dish made from peas and paneer in a tomato based sauce, spiced with garam masala.

Ingredients

  • Coriander leaves - for garnish
  • Oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - to taste
  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Red chilli powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Green chillies - 2, slit
  • Ginger - garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
  • Onions - 2 medium, finely chopped
  • Tomatoes - 2 large, pureed
  • Peas - 1 cup, frozen or fresh
  • Paneer - 200 grams, cubed

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Let them sizzle.
  2. Add chopped onions and sauté till they turn translucent.
  3. Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chillies. Sauté till the raw smell goes away.
  4. Add the pureed tomatoes and cook till oil separates from the sides.
  5. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and salt. Mix well.
  6. Add the peas and some water. Cover the pan and cook till peas are done.
  7. Add paneer cubes and garam masala. Mix gently and cook for a couple of minutes.
  8. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with roti or rice.
