Maldivian Fish Curry

This Maldivian fish curry is a flavorful and aromatic dish made with fresh fish, coconut milk, and a blend of spices.

Ingredients

  • Fresh cilantro - For garnish
  • Salt - To taste
  • Lime juice - 2 tablespoons
  • Tomato - 1, chopped
  • Chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Curry powder - 2 tablespoons
  • Ginger - 1-inch piece, grated
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Onion - 1, finely chopped
  • Coconut milk - 1 cup
  • Fish fillets - 500 grams

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Sauté until the onion turns translucent.
  3. Add the curry powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and chili powder. Cook for a minute to release the flavors.
  4. Add the chopped tomato and cook until it softens.
  5. Pour in the coconut milk and bring it to a simmer.
  6. Add the fish fillets and gently stir to coat them with the curry sauce. Cook for about 10-15 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through.
  7. Add lime juice and season with salt to taste.
  8. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
